3 minutes - that's all it takes to make your own nut milk, free from any unwanted additives, much cheaper than the one you find in supermarkets, and with no wasted plastic bottle or Tetra Pak container. I have to warn you that once you make your own delicious and creamy almond milk, you won't want to go back to the store bought one.
- half a cup of almonds (they are a good source of magnesium, calcium and Vitamin E)*
- 1 litre filtered water
- 1/2 teaspoon organic vanilla essence
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- if you prefer it sweeter, you can add honey or maple syrup
* Ideally, you would like to pre-soak the almonds for 6-8 hours, or overnight. This will remove some of the phytic acid which can inhibit the absorption of those lovely minerals found in nuts.
Blend all ingredients at high speed for 2 minutes then strain them using a cheesecloth or a nut milk bag (it is reusable and you can buy it on Amazon). Don't throw away that almond pulp as you can add it to your porridge, or make your own protein balls.
You can store the milk in a glass bottle in the fridge for up to 3 days.
I use almond milk in smoothies, porridge, granola, and to make my delicious Golden Milk latte.
