Here’s is my ‘winter smoothie’ :) If you metabolise coffee well (you will know this if coffee doesn’t affect you much), then having a cup of coffee per day could benefit your health. There are claims stating that coffee contains many nutrients such as B vitamins and magnesium, as well as antioxidants. But how about upgrading your coffee and making it ‘smarter’?
My winter smoothie is inspired by the #bulletproof coffee and I absolutely love its taste. According to Bulletproof coffee, this is ‘a high-performance drink that has a massive impact on your energy and cognitive function.’ I can’t vouch for that, but I like the taste so much that I’m sold.
What I like about my winter smoothie is that it's very creamy, it's easy to make, it's got healthy fats (unsalted butter and the Brain Octane), as well as protein (collagen powder).
I use: - organic grounded coffee (I like Cru Coffee, you can buy it online, or from Tesco).
- one teaspoon organic grass fed unsalted butter* or ghee.
- one teaspoon Bulletproof Brain Octane oil (I know it sounds weird).
- 20 grams of unflavoured collagen peptides (I use Vital Proteins).
- ½ tsp cinnamon powder.
*Make sure the butter in unsalted!
Brew the coffee (I use a cafetiere), add the other ingredients and mix it all in a blender for 20-30 seconds until it looks like a foamy latte. If you are in a hurry you can also use an electric milk frother mixer, it'll do the job. You will end up with a deliciously creamy drink.
Grass-fed butter is a great source of good fats and it is high in essential nutrients; it contains omega-3 fatty acids, beta-carotene, fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K, and antioxidants.
The Brain Octane oil from Bulletproof is a purified form of medium-chain triglyceride (MCT) derived from 100% pure coconut oil. It’s flavourless and odourless so you won't taste it in your coffee. It is claimed that this oil converts into energising fuel sources (called ketones) that start powering our mind and body.
Collagen is the most abundant protein in the body, it is found in every tissue of the body and is the connective tissue in structures such as skin, hair, nails, bones, lungs, heart and liver. It is often referred to as the glue that holds the body together. Taking collagen is associated with a number of health benefits: it may improve skin health, prevent hair and bone loss, relieve joint pain, and improve digestive health.
Enjoy your winter smoothie! X
